Sounds like the typical flu like symptoms doesn’t it? But this time, these symptoms are much, more severe than the normal cough and cold. Moreover, serious complications may arise such as Pneumonia, Kidney and Liver Failure, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and even death. Seek medical care if any of these symptoms develop.

The virus is spread by air droplets from sneezing, coughing, spitting etc and thus protection via covering the nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing, or use of facial masks is key as well as avoiding unprotected contact with any person with symptoms of fever and cough.

Even though we all know the simple way to wash our hands, do we do it correctly and effectively. Good hand washing only takes 2 minutes of your time and frequent hand washing can prev not spread of the virus.

1. Wet hands with clean running water then apply soap.

2. Lather hands by rubbing them together. Ensure to later both front and back of your hands, between the fingers and under the nails.

3. Scrub hands for at least 20 seconds. This is very important!

4. Rinse well under clean running water and dry with a clean towel or air dry.

5. Use hand sanitizer when needed.

Frequent hand washing is very important. Hand washing must occur after sneezing or coughing, before preparing food, when caring for someone who if sick, before eating, after toilet use, after dealing with animals or animal waste and of course when ever hands are dirty for whatever reason.

Avoid consumption of raw and undercooked meat/animal products and handle these products with care.
