A new fire station is to be constructed at Prince Road, Pine, St. Michael, on the same compound as the CXC building. Word of this from Minister of Home Affairs Edmund Hinkson who told journalists yesterday that the proposed state-of-the-art facility would replace the current Probyn Street Bridgetown headquarters which has been earmarked for demolition.
The minister detailed that some firefighters would be relocated to the temporary fire station at Prince Road while others would be accommodated at the Worthing, Christ Church, and Arch Hall, St Thomas, stations. He also revealed that an additional temporary station would be constructed at the British American Building Upper Collymore Rock, St. Michael.
The current station at Probyn Street along with the old NIS building at Fairchild Street has been earmarked for demolition to accommodate the construction of the Golden Square Freedom Square.
